Domestic and Commercial EV Charging Point Installer
Types of EV Charging Points Belfast, NI
There are 3 common types of electric vehicle charging point available in the UK. Rapid chargers are usually found at motor way service stations. Fast chargers are most commonly used in homes and businesses. Slow chargers are a legacy chargers designed to be installed your 13Amp circuits, we generally don’t recommend installing slow chargers.
Rapid Chargers
Rapid charge points are most commonly found at motorway service stations or just off main travel routes. Depending on the type of electric vehicle and battery they can charge a vehicle to 80% in as little as 30 minutes. They use 43 – 120 kWh (kilowatt hours) of electricity which is far more than is available at most domestic locations or work premises, so they are not a viable option for most customers.
Fast Chargers
Fast chargers are typically rated at 7kW or 22kW (single or 3 phase). Generally, these points will charge a vehicle between 5-8 hours depending on the vehicle and the battery. Fast chargers are what we recommend for the vast majority of our customers because they can be installed without the need for costly infrastructure changes and they are ft for purpose for most electric vehicle users.
Slow Chargers
Slow chargers, the majority of which are rated at up to 3kW, 0-100 charge times for vehicles typically take up to 12 hours. These types of charger are designed to be installed on part of your existing 13Amp socket circuit but aren’t a suitable solution for everyday use.
Types of Charging Connector
Type 1 & 2
There are two different types of electric vehicle charging connector, broadly models manufactured before 2018 use type 1 where as more recent vehicles use type2. There is no difference in terms of the infrastructure that we will install in your home or business. The only practical difference to you is the cable and adaptor that you use to plug into your car.
